Buy Nothing Day

November 24th of every year is the International Buy Nothing Day. No need to confuse about this day. Just simple - Spend a day with out spending !!

Everything we buy has an impact on our planet. Buy Nothing Day highlights the environmental and ethical consequences of consumerism.

Buy Nothing Day in India is not at all famous. In Bangalore what I noticed that if the shop is not having a reduction sale, no body will peep into that shop. So some shops will increase the price o and put some kind of special offers for their stuff and people are happy to buy things from there.

Buy Nothing Day is an informal day of protest against consumerism. This is the day you can challenge yourself and stop shopping.

Cisco Telepresence Telepathy

Do you remember the Jedi council meeting in Star Wars: Episode-III, where some like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda were seated alongside beameddown images. I am not remembering this scene because I didn't watch the movie!!!

John Chambers - Cisco Boss had a 'telepathy' with his guys from San Jose, California, to Bangalore and standing next to Chambers in front of the press. The technology involves high definition video projection systems and will save lot of time by reducing the travel and by reducing travel, it can reduce world’s carbon footprint.

Cisco Telepresence Video - just for fun

"How much does the Cisco TelePresence product cost? What other possible expenses are associated with the system?

Marthin De Beer: The Cisco TelePresence 3000 costs approximately $300,000 for each installation, or room, while the Cisco TelePresence 1000 runs about $80,000 per room. If you are a large organization with an up-to-date Cisco-powered network and a Unified Communications (IP phone) system, you will likely have very few additional costs. To optimize the performance, management and functionality of the Cisco TelePresence system, it requires the Cisco Unified CallManager 5.0, which is the call routing system for our IP phone system and provides the call management for the telepresence communications. Also, each plasma screen requires between 2 and 4 megabits per second (Mbps) of bandwidth. Installation will be managed by 22 of our Cisco partners, and we are conducting rigorous certification of global service providers to support connections for Cisco TelePresence communications." :

Kannada Rajyotsava

Kannada Rajyotsava Day 2007

Its the day for the celebration in Karnataka for officially forming the state on November 1 1973 and it is called Kannada Rajyotsava or Karnataka Rajyotsava. This is celebrated all over the Karnataka, especially in Bangalore Metro.Half Yellow and Half Red flags flying all over the places in Buses, Auto Rickshaws, Two wheelers, Shops etc. In the morning there were processions from different areas all over the city and its pretty interesting to watch this.

Auto Rickshaws hosted the Yellow and Red Flag

Some people misunderstood Kannada Rajyotsava and gives the meaning as "birth of a state". (Given in Wikipedia) I don't think this is the right meaning. Rajya + Utsava is Rajyotsava. Rajya means Country/State and Utsava means Celebrations. So Kannada Rajyotsava means Kannada/Karnataka " Kannada State Celebrates its birthday"

Kannada Rajyotsava 2007 venu at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore

This celebration spanned all over November and most of the activities will have a Kannada Touch and its pretty interested to know the Kannada culture and definitely try more and more Kannada food like 'BusyBadaBath' ( I think this the way to pronounce it, i think the word is a mix of Engilsh and Hindi : 'BusyBadaBath' is a hot food which is made with Rice, it add 'some kind of sambar' in it and the food is spicy and hot)

About the Half Yellow and Half Red flags used in Karnataka:
No Indian state is allowed to have a separate flag as per the constitution of India and the tricolor is the flag for all the states in India. I think the Kannada Flag used as unofficial and I am pretty much intersted to know the significance of its colors.

Happy Kannada Rajyotsava 2007 !!!
Happy Karnataka Rajyotsava 2007 !!!

Bottom Line : The neighboring Satae Kerala's Birth is on the same day(November 1) and they are 'celebrating' by a full day bandh announced by a political party!!!
